The book is about Pearlie and her friend Naoko. She is Japanese. Naoko is more adventurous than Pearlie. They have amazing adventures together in a cave, meeting lots of dangerous animals like large carpet pythons in the bushes. They have a really great time together exploring the diamond cave in 1941. They explore all the big and small chambers together in the diamond cave.
The chapters in book are Snow Whites, The Stranger, Diamond Cave, The Scrapbook, The Break-in, The Darkroom, The Gold Bracelet, The Red Truck, Pearl Harbor and Missing. All the chapters have fantastic stories of Pearlie and Naoko's adventures in 1941 in Darwin.
In the story, Pearlie's life changes every day because it is war time.The soldiers are going against Pearlie's best friend Naoko just because she is from Japan. Pearlie gets even more sadness in her because people are going against Naoko Pearlie's best friend. Will Pearlie be brave enough to do what's right or will she be too scared and stand back?
